About Us

The Nunavut Surface Rights Tribunal (“NSRT” or “Tribunal”) is established pursuant to the Nunavut Waters and Nunavut Surface Rights Tribunal Act and the Nunavut Land Claims Agreement, as adopted by the Nunavut Land Claim Act. The NSRT is established for the purpose of providing an independent mechanism for the resolution of disputes arising from:

  1. Access to surface land in Nunavut;
  2. Claims for compensation arising from loss or damage to wildlife, carving stone and other specified substances from development in Nunavut.

The Nunavut Waters and Nunavut Surface Rights Tribunal Act provides that the NSRT is an Institution of Public Government but is not an agent of the Government of Canada.

Anyone wishing to contact the NSRT may contact the Tribunal Administrator directly via telephone at: (867) 975-2102, via e-mail at: administrator@nsrt.ca or via mail at P.O. Box 2169, Iqaluit, Nunavut X0A 0H0.
